I will never go back where the old man lay
though not so far behind.
if I look back he will overcome me
he’s anxious to destroy.
He lurks in the dark cellar of my mind
I dare never go where the old man lay with thoughts long forgotten.
Bless the Keeper of the cellar door, he keeps me
as I draw nearer every day.
He reminds me of what waits ahead beyond the glistening shore
now reconciled through Him, I’m new and trusting in His grace to see me through.
its that old man in the cellar that reminds me “that sin is sweet”.
But its the Cross that bids me and I’ll never go back, for fatal would that be.
With His loving arms around me the old man slowly fades away. [ for context Ephesians 4:20-32]
